81 Arrested, 44 FIRs Filed Over Poppy Cultivation: Dy CM Dikho

Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho reported on the arrest of 81 individuals across 10 districts for various offenses related to poppy cultivation. Among those arrested are 16 village chiefs, one landowner, and 64 poppy cultivators, with 44 FIRs registered. During the 7th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh presented the “Medium Term Fiscal Policy Statement” and revealed a budget of ₹1,258.87 crore allocated across seven departments for the financial year 2026-27. Notable allocations include ₹439.80 crore for Municipal Administration and ₹711.16 crore for Public Health Engineering. The Chief Minister also addressed infrastructure projects, including a ₹33 crore waste management initiative and the creation of 27,000 urban housing units, emphasizing the need for civic responsibility in waste disposal.

In response to MLA questions, the Deputy Chief Minister detailed progress under various government schemes, including drinking water supply initiatives under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims for universal coverage. An overhead tank’s construction is nearly complete, though delayed by contractor issues, with an assurance that remaining work will finish within six months. He further mentioned nine packages under NDB, noting that two are encountering contractor challenges. While the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department currently faces staffing shortages due to police personnel being diverted to law enforcement, the Chief Minister indicated that improvements in law and order would eventually bolster the department’s manpower and productivity, having dealt with 222 cases over the last five years. Overall, the session highlighted both developmental initiatives and ongoing challenges within various sectors in Manipur.
