A fresh militant attack has been reported on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur, marking yet another escalation along the volatile India–Myanmar border. This time, the incident occurred in Tengnoupal district, where suspected militants of the PLA opened fire on an Assam Rifles patrolling team in the early hours of Friday.
According to the Defence spokesperson, the attack was sudden and took place at dawn. The Assam Rifles personnel immediately retaliated with controlled and measured firing, prioritising the safety of civilians in the area. Following the exchange of fire, the militants reportedly fled across the border into Myanmar.
Initial local inputs suggested that several personnel may have sustained injuries, though the official statement from the security forces has not confirmed any casualties or injuries. The Army has stated that a massive area domination and combing operation has been launched across the region, and additional troops have been deployed to strengthen security.
This attack comes just months after a similar militant ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in September in Bishnupur district, which claimed the lives of two personnel. The recurrence of such incidents has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges along the Manipur–Myanmar border.
