In a remarkable act of compassion and solidarity, personnel of Veng Battalion donated five units of blood to a critically ill patient at the District Hospital, Churachandpur. The 47-year-old man, a resident of S Khomunum village, was admitted with a history of hypertension and chronic kidney disease, compounded by abdominal pain and elevated liver enzymes. On evaluation, doctors found him severely anaemic, with dangerously low hemoglobin levels that required urgent transfusion, said a press release of IGAR(S).
Responding swiftly to an emergency request from hospital authorities, five members of Veng Battalion voluntarily came forward to donate blood. Their timely intervention enabled immediate transfusion, stabilizing the patient’s condition during a life-threatening crisis. The hospital staff and the patient’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the prompt and noble gesture, acknowledging that the contribution of Assam Rifles personnel played a decisive role in saving his life. This humanitarian act reflects the enduring commitment of the force to the welfare of the local population, extending their service beyond operational duties to stand by the community in moments of dire need, it added.
