Security forces conducted a major search operation in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Tuesday, leading to the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunition, and protective gear, officials said.
The operation was carried out in the Nungai Hill Range area under Sagolmang Police Station limits following specific intelligence inputs. A coordinated team of security personnel combed the area and recovered several weapons believed to have been concealed for use in potential armed activities.
Among the seized items were a country-made rifle, a country-made 9 mm pistol along with a magazine, and an HE-36 hand grenade. Security forces also recovered five rounds of .303 ammunition from the site.
In addition to firearms and explosives, protective equipment was found during the operation. These included a bulletproof jacket fitted with two metal plates, two bulletproof helmets, a magazine pouch, and three weapon slings. Officials indicated that the presence of both offensive weapons and defensive gear suggests the stockpile may have been intended for use in planned militant or insurgent operations.
The recovery comes amid continued efforts by security forces to maintain law and order and prevent the proliferation of illegal arms in vulnerable areas of the state. Search operations have been intensified in sensitive pockets based on intelligence inputs to curb unlawful activities and ensure public safety.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the seizure. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapons and identify individuals or groups linked to the cache.
Security agencies reiterated their commitment to conducting sustained operations to dismantle illegal arms networks and restore stability in the region.
