The Assam Rifles in Manipur stopped a smuggling effort and confiscated a massive shipment of contraband Areca nuts valued at Rs 2.4 crore from Khuga village in Churachandpur district. Following a combined questioning by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, the personnel seized all four cars and turned them over to the Divisional Forest Officer of Churachandpur, according to a news release issued by the Assam Rifles. Around two in the morning on November 1, three goods carrier trucks and one Tata DI carrying illicit Areca nuts attempted to enter Khuga Village. In response to specific input from sources, the Assam Rifles created a column to stop the smuggling. When the convoy was stopped by Assam Rifles at the Khuga vehicle check station, it was discovered that the cars were carrying 350 sacks of illicit Areca nuts in total, concealed under boxes and covers.
