Birth Anniversary of Bob Khathing Commemorated

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organized on Saturday at the Late Maj. Bob Khathing Memorial, Awungtang, Ukhrul, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the distinguished officer and to honor his lasting legacy in the region. The event was conducted with dignity and reverence, reflecting the deep respect held for his service and contribution to the nation.

Senior officials from Headquarters, 10 Assam Rifles, laid a wreath at the memorial as a mark of remembrance. The ceremony witnessed the participation of representatives from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Ukhrul, Hunphun village headmen, and the clan leader of the Relengnao tribe. Their presence highlighted the strong civil–military bond and collective homage to a leader whose vision continues to inspire, said a press release of IGAR(S).

Late Major Bob Khathing holds a distinguished place in history for his decisive and peaceful expedition to Tawang in 1951, where he formally established Indian administrative presence in the region. His tact, leadership, and diplomatic acumen ensured the integration of Tawang into the Union of India without conflict, a milestone that safeguarded national sovereignty and strengthened unity in the Northeast.

The ceremony included a moment of silence in his honor, reaffirming the shared commitment of the people and security forces towards peace, unity, and progress in the Ukhrul district. The tribute served not only as a remembrance of his extraordinary service but also as a reminder of the relevance of his vision in present-day Manipur, where his legacy continues to inspire both communities and security forces alike, it added.
