Census House Listing in Manipur to Begin from September 1

The house listing operations for Census 2027 in the State of Manipur are scheduled to occur between September 1 and September 30, 2026, following a notification issued by the government amid public opposition. This exercise will include a self-enumeration option available from August 17 to August 31, allowing residents to participate either digitally or offline prior to the official house-to-house listing. Increasing concerns regarding the identification of illegal immigrants, as well as calls from local political figures like Congress legislature party leader Keisham Meghachandra to postpone the census until normalcy is restored, highlight the public’s apprehensions regarding the census process. Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed the timeline for Census 2027 through an official document, which outlines that house listing will be carried out across all states and union territories from April 1 to September 30, 2026, with the specific dates determined by each region. This notification, issued by Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, is supported by legal frameworks under the Census Act of 1948 and updates previous directives.
