CM Directs Officials to Ensure Safe Highway Movement

After meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, Chief Minister Y Khemchand chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat, wherein the Chief Minister issued directives to the officials concerned to firmly address and contain all disruptive and recalcitrant elements, ensuring secure corridors and smooth transit across the State. In a social media post, Chief Minister Khemchand said, “Chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat today to assess and strengthen measures for ensuring safety and security along the National Highways”.

“The protection of life and the facilitation of safe, uninterrupted movement of people and goods remain our highest priority. Clear directives have been issued to firmly address and contain all disruptive and recalcitrant elements, ensuring secure corridors and smooth transit across the State,” the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister said that the government remains resolute in its commitment to uphold peace, stability, and public confidence through decisive and coordinated action. Notably, upon his arrival in Imphal, Chief Minister Khemchand went straight to Lok Bhavan where he held a meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, although details of the meeting remained unknown. Earlier on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the State’s law and order situation with Chief Minister Khemchand at Parliament House complex, New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the prevailing security scenario in Manipur with the Chief Minister. He also directed the Chief Minister to accelerate the present peace process and consolidate the growing bonhomie among different communities. In a major decision, Amit Shah also in principle agreed the raising of one Mahila India Reserve Battalion (IRB) for Manipur and asked the Chief Minister to send the proposal. The Chief Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the union home minister for his in-principal approval for the raising of a Mahila IRB Battalion, aimed at enhancing our capacity in maintaining law & order and ensuring internal security.

“A detailed proposal will be submitted at the earliest in this regard. We remain steadfast in our commitment to restoring lasting peace, stability, and inclusive progress in Manipur,” the Chief Minister said. Meanwhile, GOC, 57 Mountain Division, Major General Subhankar Basu, SM, VSM called on Chief Minister Khemchand at the Secretariat where they held detailed deliberations on the preparatory framework for hosting the Durand Cup 2026 in Imphal. “Our discussions focused on institutional coordination, logistical preparedness, and the requisite modalities to ensure the seamless and successful organization of the tournament. As Asia’s oldest football competition, featuring premier teams from the Indian Super League, I-League, and the Armed Forces, the Durand Cup carries immense sporting prestige,” Khemchand said in another post. “With large spectator participation anticipated, the State Government remains fully committed to delivering a secure, well-organized, and world-class sporting event, further reinforcing Manipur’s standing as a leading hub of football excellence,” the Chief Minister said.
