CoTU temporarily suspends 48-hour economic blockade following government assurances

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) of Sadar Hills has announced the temporary suspension of its planned 48-hour economic blockade along National Highway-2 (NH-2), which was scheduled to begin at midnight on October 7. The decision comes after the Government of India, through the district administrator, provided assurances to take swift action regarding the recent abduction of local resident Kamginlen Chongloi.

Chongloi was reportedly abducted at Makhan on October 2, prompting the CoTU to announce the economic blockade as a measure to demand immediate government intervention. Authorities have assured that security measures in buffer zones will be strengthened to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. CoTU clarified that the suspension of the blockade is a gesture of good faith.

However, the organisation has reserved the right to reinstate the economic blockade without prior notice if the government fails to fulfill its commitments within the agreed timeframe. In a statement, CoTU expressed its gratitude to the local community and civil organisations for their unwavering support and solidarity during the period of agitation. The group also urged continued vigilance while authorities work to resolve the abduction case and reinforce safety measures in the region.
