In Manipur, the Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) warmly welcomed Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who is contesting for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the 18th Lok Sabha Poll. The reception took place at the CPI(MSC)’s Irawat Bhawan.
Dr. Moirangthem Nara Singh, a National Executive Member of the Communist Party India (CPI), expressed the rationale behind supporting the INC candidate, emphasizing it as a strategic move to collectively challenge the ruling BJP government. He highlighted the growing disillusionment among the people with the BJP’s governance, both at the central and state levels.
Stressing the need for unity among like-minded political parties in the current scenario, Dr. Nara Singh underscored the decision of around 10 such parties to join forces and contest the election together. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the CPI, mentioning the initial approval to field Laishram Sotinkumar, the state secretary of CPI/MSC, as their candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency. However, in light of evolving circumstances, the party chose to withdraw Sotinkumar’s candidature and extend support to the INC candidate.
It is noteworthy that 10 such like-minded political parties, including the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Janata Dal (United), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena (UBT), and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), have come together to contest the election jointly.
