Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh left for New Delhi on Friday, sparking speculations over a possible move to restore a popular government in the State as President’s Rule nears its expiry next month. Singh, who is also leader of the BJP legislature party, reportedly told media persons at Imphal airport that the visit is related to elections.” As it is, hectic parleys are underway in the state to restore a popular in the state which has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025. According to reports, Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi has also left Imphal for the national capital. It may be noted that President’s Rule in strife-torn Manipur is scheduled to expire next month, and speculations are rife among political circles that a popular government might be reinstated without any further extension of central rule. The developments come in the backdrop of a meeting held last month in New Delhi, where central BJP leaders had summoned all party MLAs from the State, cutting across community lines. A majority of the BJP legislators attended the meeting, raising expectations of government formation in the state. Even as there has been no official announcement so far, Singh’s visit to the national capital apparently has lent momentum to discussions on the future political roadmap for Manipur.
