Imphal Police supports Manipur’s first woman auto driver with a thoughtful gesture

The Imphal East Traffic Officer-in-Charge fulfilled a promise by replacing the hood of an auto-rickshaw owned by Laibi Oinam, Manipur’s first woman auto driver. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh shared the update on social media, expressing pride in Laibi’s journey. “This small gesture reflects our commitment to supporting individuals who inspire change in society. May her story continue to inspire countless others to challenge norms and pursue their dreams fearlessly,” he stated.

Laibi’s journey is one of determination and courage. Once a brick kiln laborer, she took up driving an auto-rickshaw after her husband’s illness left her as the family’s sole breadwinner. Despite societal criticism, she broke barriers in a male-dominated profession, becoming a symbol of empowerment for women in the state.

The Traffic OC’s initiative not only acknowledges her struggle but also highlights the importance of uplifting those who defy norms to pave the way for others. Laibi’s story serves as a powerful reminder that perseverance and courage can break stereotypes and inspire positive change.
