The Kuki Students’ Organisation, Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) has officially withdrawn its ultimatum to the Manipur government after critical staffing shortages in education and healthcare sectors in Kangpokpi District were addressed. At a press conference held at their administrative office, Assistant Education Secretary Chochon Tuboi confirmed that the Higher & Technical Education and Health Departments have responded positively by posting essential personnel to fill long-standing vacancies. According to official notifications, Presidency College in Motbung has received four professors and nine contractual assistant professors, easing the faculty shortage that had severely affected higher education in the area. Additionally, four medical officers have been assigned to various Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres across the district to improve healthcare access.
The ultimatum, issued on May 8, highlighted serious concerns over the lack of qualified faculty at Presidency College and the absence of doctors at several health facilities, which had compromised public education and health services. KSO-SH had warned of launching a democratic agitation if their demands were not met within the given timeframe. Praising the swift action of the government departments, Tuboi said, “This is a positive step toward restoring faith in public institutions and governance. We call on the appointed staff to report immediately and serve with commitment.”
He also stressed that this development should set a precedent for fair and accountable governance, adding that KSO-SH will continue to monitor implementation closely. The peaceful pressure campaign by KSO-SH has been widely welcomed by civil society, with many lauding it as a model of responsible, youth-led advocacy that upholds democratic values while delivering concrete results.
