The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has strongly condemned the bombing incident carried out allegedly by unknown miscreants at Gamnomphai village near the Seitol area of Churachandpur district at around 5:40 a.m. and 8 a.m today, saying such acts of violence are deeply disturbing, irresponsible, and pose a grave threat to peace, public safety, and communal harmony.Several people have been reported injured as a result of the explosion. The incident has occurred in and around the buffer zone area established by the security forces of the Government with the sole purpose of preventing confrontation and safeguarding civilian lives, said KZC in a press release.Reiterating that the buffer zone must be strictly respected by all at all times, it said that any violation of this neutral and sensitive area undermines the efforts of the security forces and escalates fear and mistrust among the general public.
KZC said that it is particularly unfortunate and condemn able that such an incident has taken place during the ongoing Christmas-New Year festive season-a time meant for peace, reflection, and togetherness. Instead, this act has instilled panic and insecurity among innocent civilians, disrupting normal life and threatening the fragile calm that people are striving to rebuild, it said.It appealed to the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest. It also urged the security forces to further strengthen vigilance in and around buffer zone areas to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
