Large cache of arms, ammunition seized in Manipur

A large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered by security forces in Manipur in two separate incidents, police said on Saturday. On Friday, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the adjoining areas of Ngairangbam and Khongakhul villages under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. Among the recovered items were one modified .303 rifle along with magazine, one local made SBBL, five pistols along with five magazines, one air pistol, one grenade, 20 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition, one Baofeng hand-held set with charger and one bulletproof jacket cover. Security forces made another recovery from the foothills of the Chanung Range. Among the weapons found were a .303 rifle with a magazine, an SLR without a magazine, eight Single Barrel Breech Loading (SBBL) rifles, a revolver and a .22 pistol with a magazine. Meanwhile, security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. A total of 115 Nakas/checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley. Movement of 230 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured and strict security measures are being taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, said police.
