Manipur Bombing: CM Vows Justice After Fatal Attack on Children Sparks Outcry

A wave of grief and fury has swept through Manipur following a devastating bomb attack in the Bishnupur district that claimed the lives of two innocent children, prompting Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to promise the most stringent action against those responsible. The tragedy occurred late Tuesday night in the Moirang Trounglaobi area, where an explosive device targeted a residential home while the family was asleep. The victims, a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, died instantly, while their mother sustained critical injuries and remains in a battle for her life at a local hospital. As news of the horrific incident spread, thousands of protesters took to the streets in Imphal and surrounding valley districts, defying security restrictions to demand the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and an end to the escalating violence that has gripped the state.

In response to the volatile situation, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh convened a high-level emergency security meeting with top officials from the police and paramilitary forces to review the law-and-order situation. Expressing his deep condolences to the bereaved family, the CM condemned the act as a “cowardly and barbaric crime against humanity” that transcends any political or ethnic conflict. He officially announced that the investigation into the bombing would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a thorough and impartial probe into the conspiracy behind the attack. To prevent further escalation of violence, the state government has reimposed an indefinite curfew in five valley districts and temporarily suspended mobile internet services to curb the spread of inflammatory rumors. The CM has appealed to the public for calm, assuring them that the state will not rest until the “monsters” who spilled the blood of children are brought to justice. Despite these assurances, the atmosphere remains incredibly tense as community leaders call for a total shutdown, and additional central forces have been air-lifted to the region to maintain a fragile peace. This incident has once again highlighted the precarious security landscape in Manipur, leaving a grieving population questioning when true stability will return to their homes.
