Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has made a strong appeal to immediately release civilians who have been held captive along the Ukhrul–Imphal road under Litan Police Station. The Chief Minister, while expressing grave concern over the incident, warned those responsible of strict action. “Deeply concerned by reports of civilians being held captive along the Ukhrul–Imphal road under Litan Police Station. I strongly urge those responsible to immediately release all civilians safely and unconditionally,” the Chief Minister stated on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“The Government is closely monitoring the situation, and strict action will be taken against those involved in this unlawful and cowardly act,’ Singh asserted. “Senior officials have been directed to act urgently. I appeal to all CSOs and stakeholders to help restore calm and maintain peace,” he said. The Chief Minister assured the families of the affected individuals that the government was treating the matter with utmost seriousness. He stated that authorities would take all necessary measures to identify and bring to justice those involved in what he described as a cowardly act against innocent people.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, the Chief Minister said the administration remains firmly dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of every citizen of Manipur. He directed senior police and administrative officials to coordinate closely and maintain strict vigil over the situation in the affected area. The officials have been instructed to initiate immediate steps to secure the safe release of the civilians and restore normalcy along the crucial road corridor. The Chief Minister also appealed to civil society organizations (CSOs) and local stakeholders to extend their cooperation in defusing tensions and helping authorities bring the situation under control.
