Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union condemns attack on local newspaper, calls for press freedom

The Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU) has strongly condemned the vandalism of a local newspaper office by unidentified miscreants amid the ongoing tensions in Churachandpur district. The union has urged the state government to take immediate action against those responsible for the attack and ensure the safety of media professionals.

In a statement, MHJU expressed solidarity with the affected newspaper and journalists working under difficult conditions in the district. The union denounced any form of violence targeting media professionals, emphasizing their vital role in providing accurate and timely information to the public.

Amid the prevailing unrest, MHJU has made a fervent appeal to all communities to refrain from further violence and work towards restoring peace and normalcy. The union also reaffirmed its support for any initiative aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
