In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police arrested five active cadres of the proscribed insurgent groups KCP (PWG) and UPPK, who were allegedly involved in extortion and other illegal operations across the state.In a targeted operation, police arrested Shandham Romen Singh (39), an active member of KCP (PWG), from Samurou in Imphal West District. Officials recovered 11 incriminating demand letters, allegedly used for extorting money from individuals and businesses. In a separate incident, another KCP (PWG) operative, Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38), was apprehended near the RIMS Main Gate in Lamphel. He was reportedly involved in extorting government officials and civilians. A mobile handset, suspected to have been used for criminal activities, was seized from his possession.Later the same day, three active members of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were arrested from Langol Type-II in Imphal West. Ashangbam Manikanta Singh (37)
Sorokhaibam Nganthoi Singh (23)
According to police, the trio was running an illegal tribunal, extorting money from the general public by conducting unauthorized trials. During the operation, police seized two four-wheelers, three mobile handsets, and other incriminating materials from their possession.
Authorities stated that these arrests are part of an ongoing effort to curb insurgent activities and ensure law and order in the state. Security forces have intensified surveillance and intelligence operations to track down extortion rackets and illegal activities linked to insurgent groups.
