Imphal, September 17, 2025: In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, state police and security forces have apprehended several active cadres of banned insurgent outfits, including the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], United National Liberation Front (UNLF – Koireng faction), and People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The crackdown also led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and incriminating documents, dealing a significant blow to underground networks operating in the region.
Three active KCP (PWG) members — Thangjam Yaiphaba Meitei (31), Sanjrambam Loha Meitei (29) from Yumnam Patlou, Mamang Leikai, and Tonjam Hemon Singh (46) of Tangkham Maklha Leikai — were arrested from Khabam Lamkhai Bazar and Hatta Kangjeibung areas. Seized items included mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, KCP letterheads, bank-targeted envelopes, organizational seals, and cash, indicating a systematic extortion network aimed at coercing bank officials to sanction loans. Two UNLF cadres — Huidrom Sangba (40) of Khurai Salangthong and Ningombam Birban Meitei (43) of Churachandpur — were arrested near Khangabok District Hospital. Authorities seized a white Mahindra Bolero, mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, ATM cards, and vehicle documents from them.
In Bishnupur district, two PLA members — Salam Brojen Meitei alias Amujao (41) and Oinam Mani Singh alias Melei (42) — were apprehended from their residences under Keibul Lamjao Police Station jurisdiction. Two mobile phones were recovered during the operation. A significant arms haul followed the arrest of three additional KCP (PWG) cadres in Lilong Bazar, Thoubal: Md. Shagir Khan (28), Thanshok Awungshi Shimray (37), and Oinam Amitkumar Singh (28). Based on their disclosures, security forces recovered:
