Manipur Police nab PREPAK cadres, seize arms and explosives cache

In a significant breakthrough against insurgent activities, Manipur Police apprehended two active cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district. The duo, identified as Leishangthem Napoleon Meitei (35) and Thokchom Amujao Singh (33), were reportedly involved in extortion targeting elected officials and other individuals.

The arrests were made during a strategic operation on Sunday, with law enforcement seizing crucial evidence. Items recovered included three mobile phones, twelve demand letters, and a four-wheeler, which are suspected to have been used in their illicit activities.

The arrests coincided with intensified security operations across Manipur’s hill and valley regions. These operations, aimed at neutralizing militant networks, yielded a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in separate raids conducted in Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts.

In Muallam village, Churachandpur, on December 28, security personnel uncovered:

One INSAS Excalibur rifle with a magazine
One 9mm country-made pistol with a magazine
One single-barrel rifle
Three INSAS ball rounds
Meanwhile, in Saivom village, Tengnoupal, on December 27, a more extensive haul included:

Two .303 rifles with magazines
One 12-bore single-barrel gun (country-made)
One country-made pompi gun
Seven IEDs of varying sizes
Five hand grenades
Five pompi ammunition rounds
Forty detonators
Sixty live rounds of ammunition
Three mine detonators
One Motorola radio set with five chargers

Authorities have underscored the importance of these operations in safeguarding public safety and dismantling militant infrastructure. Investigations are underway to determine the extent of the arrested cadres’ involvement in extortion and other illegal activities.
