In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, security forces arrested multiple militants linked to proscribed groups and seized significant contraband, enhancing the region’s safety. On February 20, an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF – P) was apprehended from Chingyang Lairenbi Ima Keithel in Imphal East district. The militant, identified as Hemam Bebeshwor Singh (30), was allegedly involved in extortion targeting the public, government officials, and private firms to raise party funds. Security forces recovered a backpack, camouflage combat uniforms, military boots, two mobile phones, and a wallet during the arrest.
In Bishnupur district, a separate operation led to the arrest of a cadre from the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP – City Meitei) near Ibudhou Khonghaba Thangjing Laikon. The individual, identified as Khaidem Benarrjit Singh (28), was found with two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card. Another operation in Bishnupur’s Kwakta Phougakchao area saw the arrest of two individuals, Moichingmayum Farid (28) and Md. Amar Shah (29), with a significant seizure of suspected brown sugar weighing over 1.8 kg.
Meanwhile, on February 19, an active member of KCP (PWG) was arrested from Pheidinga under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district. The militant, identified as Md. Harish (21), was taken into custody without incident.
