Manipur set to observe Khongjom Day on April 23 with solemn tribute to war heroes

The Government of Manipur is making elaborate preparations to observe Khongjom Day on April 23 at the Khongjom War Memorial in Khebaching, Thoubal district. The annual event commemorates the heroic stand of Manipuri soldiers against British forces during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891. This year’s observance will be graced by Hon’ble Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Chief Guest, with Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh presiding over the function.

The programme will begin with Sankirtan performances by artists of the Manipur State Kala Akademi. Dignitaries will offer floral tributes at the memorial and at the statue of the legendary Paona Brajabashi. A ritual Tarpon will also be held at the Khongjom River. A highlight of the day will be the drama Khongjom Lal by Rup Mahal Theatre, alongside other cultural presentations.

To facilitate public participation, the Transport Department has arranged special buses from key locations in Imphal, including MST Complex, Koirengei, Porompat, and others, departing at 6:30 am. Government employees have been directed to attend the event mandatorily.
