Manipur unveils first online water billing portal for Imphal residents

In a move towards digital governance and improved public services, the Public Health & Engineering Department (PHED), Manipur, on Tuesday launched its first-ever online water tariff billing portal, offering households in Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) areas and Greater Imphal an easier way to pay and manage their water bills. The portal, accessible at https://bills.phedmanipur.com, was inaugurated at the PHED Main Office, Khoyathong, Imphal West. The system has already been in trial mode since January 2025, during which 50,498 water meters were installed and more than ₹91 lakh in revenue was collected.

Officials said the new platform is designed to enhance accuracy, transparency, and convenience. Consumers can view past bill histories, receive instant alerts about new bills and due dates, and access multiple digital payment options round-the-clock. The portal also includes a grievance redressal mechanism and information on water conservation. PHED Secretary Hungyo Worshang (IAS) said the initial rollout would focus on Imphal West and Imphal East, urging residents to approach the Water Supply Maintenance Divisions—Division I at Khoyathong and Division II at Porompat—for installing new water meters. He added that the initiative would reduce manpower dependency in bill preparation and distribution.

The system will soon introduce a tariff structure based on household water consumption, ensuring a fairer billing process. Consumers can also apply for new water connections online, with a dedicated helpline (080-4567-4629) available for support.Chief Engineer Shangreiphao Vashum, Superintending Engineer (Urban) Thokchom Bebina Devi, and other senior officials attended the launch event.
