A free medical camp-cum-cataract screening programme for Senior Citizens along with a district-level ASHA Convention was organised at the Pherzawl District Headquarters today, aimed at improving healthcare access for senior citizens, women and the community at large. The medical camp, marking the third day of the ongoing initiative, was organised by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Pherzawl District Administration and District Health Society. A large number of senior citizens availed themselves of the services, undergoing eye check-ups and cataract screening. Several patients diagnosed with cataracts were advised for free surgical operations, while others suffering from various eye-related ailments were provided free medicines.
In addition, free health check-ups for adolescent girls under BBBP initiatives were conducted by doctors to address various health concerns, and medicines were distributed at no cost. Screening for malaria cases was also carried out as part of the camp, reinforcing preventive healthcare measures in the district.
The programme witnessed active participation from members of the Pherzawl Village Authority, whose support contributed to the smooth conduct and success of the camp.
Meanwhile, a district-level celebration of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) Convention 2025-2026 was held to recognise the dedicated service of ASHA workers and to strengthen coordination in community health delivery. The convention was organised by the District Health Society, Pherzawl, and was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joel G Haokip, MCS, ZEO Jangkhohao Haokip and Chief Medical Officer Dr Hmanglamkhup Kom.
