In response to law and order issues and financial difficulties, a joint consultative meeting was held by the Kakching District Bar Association concerning the upcoming Yaoshang festival. The meeting took place at the Kakching District Court complex, attended by various civil society organizations and student bodies, under the presidency of Nongmaithem Modhu. Notable attendees included police and community leaders from the Kakching District.
Participants, representing multiple student and community organizations, engaged in discussions and unanimously decided against blocking national and state highways or inter-village roads for donation collection during the festival. Forcibly stopping vehicles for monetary demands was prohibited, alongside a commitment to run awareness programs focused on safe festivities.
Legal repercussions were outlined for road blockades, and it was agreed that cultural activities like Thabal Chongba would cease by 11 pm to mitigate interference with students’ academic schedules. Despite only two official holiday days being recognized for the festival, the meeting discussed the potential extension of school holidays. The meeting concluded with a call to local officials to enforce regulations and ensure public services operate smoothly throughout the festival.
