A new office of the Thoubal District Olympic Association was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium in Thoubal Kshetri Leikai, with Dr. M.Veto, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports for Manipur, serving as the Chief Guest. M.Mani Singh, President of the District Olympic Association, presided over the event, which also featured Deven Moirangthem, the District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer, as a guest of honour. Dr. Veto praised the association’s efforts for athletes and urged continued dedication from the office bearers, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between old and new members.
M.Madhusudon, General Secretary of the association, noted that the Olympic movement’s expansion into Thoubal gained traction after the Manipur Olympic Association’s initiatives, leading to the establishment of the association in 2003 by Laishram Chandrakishwor and other sports enthusiasts. Revitalized on February 24, 2023, the association has since participated in various sports events.
A notable achievement was the successful organization of the first “Thoubal District Olympic Games, 2025-26,” held from September 24-28, 2025, featuring 20 events across different venues. The organization was led by Hannah Kahmei, IAS, then Deputy Commissioner of the district. The association highlighted that its current successes are attributed to the commitment of its office bearers, with plans for future editions of the games. Madhusudon proposed collaboration among District Level Sports Associations to cultivate emerging athletes in Thoubal for societal betterment. Many supporters and members attended the inauguration.
