“No Hope from Government,” Says Meghachandra

Newly elected Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh criticized the BJP-led government for its handling of law and order in Manipur, labeling it the “weakest government” in the state’s history. He expressed disappointment over the ongoing tensions between the Naga and Kuki communities, as well as the unresolved ethnic conflict involving the Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups, which has persisted for nearly three years. The recent shooting incident in Litan Sareikhong, reportedly by Tangkhul Naga volunteers, has heightened fears among locals, prompting police to urge both communities to avoid spreading rumors to maintain peace. Meghachandra accused both the state and Central governments of failing to coordinate effectively, asserting that their lack of seriousness is preventing the resolution of the crisis. He noted that violence, including arson and killings, occurs under the watch of both state and central forces, alleging that the government has not developed a comprehensive peace strategy and does not take responsibility for addressing issues related to internally displaced persons or establishing stability in the state.
