Ahead of the much-anticipated Cabinet expansion, the State Government has appointed Oinam Sunil Singh and retd Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh as Advisors to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand. As per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, the appointments were approved during a Cabinet meeting held on February 17. Both have been appointed as Advisors to the Chief Minister for a period of one year with immediate effect in public interest. Oinam Sunil was appointed as Media Advisor while retd Lt Gen L Nishikanta was appointed as Advisor (Coordination) to the Chief Minister. The order stated that the appointments are aimed at strengthening advisory support to the Chief Minister’s office.
A senior journalist, Oinam Sunil has served as the State Information Commissioner of the Manipur Information Commission. Oinam Sunil began his career in journalism in 1988-89 and at the time of his appointment to the coveted post, he was working as the Senior Assistant Editor (Northeast) with national newspaper- The Times of India. Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh to commissioned into the Army at the age of 20 and joined the 9th Battalion of JAKLI regiment in 1979. He became the second Lt general for Manipur in September 2015. He is the third Lt General from northeast since the country’s independence. He has completed M. Phil in Defence Studies from Madras University. He was awarded VSM two times and Commendations Card three times. Lt Gen Nishikanta contributed to reforming and revamping the security and intelligence set up of the country.Singh is an also an expert in the field of Intelligence and Security.
