Manipur Police said that the overall law-and-order situation in the state during the last 24 hours remained normal. However, two incidents of IED explosions were reported from Bishnupur district on January 5, 2026.According to the information released by the Police Control Room in Imphal, one IED exploded inside an empty house at Nganukon Ward No. 7/8 under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur district. The police stated that the house had been unoccupied since May 3, 2023.Another IED blast took place nearby at Saiton Nganukon Ward No. 8 under the same police station. In this second incident, two civilians were injured. The case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation.
Senior officers, including Inspector General of Police and the Superintendent of Police of Bishnupur district, visited the blast sites to review the situation. Police teams also carried out combing and search operations in surrounding areas. Security deployment has been strengthened to prevent any further incidents. Police said investigation and operational work are continuing to identify those responsible for the blasts. Security forces are also continuing search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable and fringe locations across districts. Manipur Police further reported that 114 checkpoints and ‘nakas’ have been set up in various parts of the valley and the hill areas. During these security checks, no detentions were reported.
Movement of essential goods along NH-37 has also been secured. Police said strict checking continues in vulnerable areas to ensure safe vehicle movement across the state. Police also appealed to the public not to spread or believe rumours. People have been advised to verify any forwarded messages, videos or audio clips by contacting the Central Control Room at 9233522822. Police warned that fake social media posts could lead to legal action. The public has also been urged to return any looted arms, ammunition or explosives to security agencies.
