A combined team of security forces, forest department along with Executive Magistrate, Churachandpur on Friday destroyed about 10 acres of poppy cultivation at the hill range of Suangkong Hill range under Behiang Police Station, Churachandpur district. Materials found at the site like salt, urea, sprayers etc used in poppy cultivation were destroyed, said a statement of Manipur Police. Another combined team of security forces, forest department on Thursday destroyed about 55 acres of poppy cultivation at the hill range of S. Khonomphai village and Denglen village under Saikul Police Station, Kangpokpi district.
Four temporary huts, bags of fertilizer, equipment like spray pumps, pipes and herbicides used for cultivation found at the site were also destroyed, it said. On the other hand, Manipur Police intercepted two Gypsy vehicles without registration number plates at Pallel Maning Leikai area under Pallel-PS, Kakching district. Four occupants of the vehicles, all residents of Zaphou Bazar, Chandel district were arrested.
They have been identified as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and HP Mono (30). From their possession, the police team seized 219 bottles of 360ml JO-Ei Soju, 685 cans of 500ml Chang beer and two Gypsy vehicles without registration number. Meanwhile, security forces continued to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. Movement of 144 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 was ensured. Strict security measures were taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy was provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
