Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier announced that Charaideo Moidam which is in Sivasagar, Assam will be in the list of World Heritage.
Following, during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in Delhi, the decision was taken to include the mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty in Assam ‘Moidams’ in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
On Friday, UNESCO announced its addition of Assam’s ‘Moidams’ site in the World Heritage list.
Union minister of culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, “This was made possible through the efforts of the Assam government and the leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are proud and grateful for the 43rd Indian addition to the World Heritage List.”
Further, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrating the achievement said, “It is the first time a site from the North East has made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List under the Cultural Category. And after Kaziranga and Manas National Parks, it is Assam’s 3rd #WorldHeritageSite.”
