Wushu player Upendro Thongam from Manipur has reached the final of the 10th World Junior Wushu Championship 2026, taking place at the Tianjin Olympic Centre Gymnasium. Competing in the Sanda (45 kg) category for India, he secured his spot in the final by defeating Emir Nurutdinov of Ukraine in the quarterfinals and Grisha Alikhanyan of Armenia in the semifinals. Upendro, who hails from Thoubal Wangma Mathak Leikai, is the son of Thongam Premkumar and Thongam Nanao Leima. He will compete against Abdullokh Rakhmanov of Uzbekistan in the final match scheduled for tomorrow. A win would grant India a gold medal, while a loss will still ensure a silver medal for him. Currently, he is training as a wushu athlete at Army Boys in Shillong.
