The Assam Rifles, in association with the District Sports Association Chandel and Wisecabs, successfully conducted the 5th edition of the “Run Chandel Run” marathon under Operation Sadbhavana. Senior officials, together with troops, joined around 1,500 participants in celebrating fitness, sportsmanship, and community unity through this vibrant event, informed a press release of IGAR(S).
Held under the theme “Run Strong, Run Proud, Run Chandel Run,” the marathon brought together residents, students, athletes, security personnel, and fitness enthusiasts from across the district. The races were organized across multiple categories to encourage wide participation: Below 16 Years (5 km), Open Category (5 km and 10 km), and Above 45 Years (5 km). The 10 km race began from Heibunglok Village, while the 5 km races commenced from Thoruwl Turf, with all events concluding at the District Sports Complex, Chandel Christian Village.
The marathon was flagged off by senior officials of the Assam Rifles at Pallel Garrison. To encourage participation, the first 500 registered runners received event T-shirts, while all finishers were awarded medals and certificates. Winners across categories were felicitated with cash prizes, with the champion of the 10 km open category receiving ₹10,000. Comprehensive medical, administrative, and technical support was extended to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the event, it added.
