Security forces in Manipur arrested five active militants belonging to two banned insurgent groups in separate operations conducted on July 6. The coordinated crackdown, which also targeted traffic violations and illegal activities, highlights the government’s firm stance on curbing militancy and enforcing the rule of law across the state. According to police sources, the operations were carried out across Imphal East district by state security forces, including Manipur Police, with support from local intelligence units. The arrested insurgents were identified as active cadres of two outlawed outfits — the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)] and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), both of which have a history of extortion, threats, and involvement in armed violence.
In one operation, two KCP (PWG) operatives were apprehended from Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai, located under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East. The arrested individuals were identified as Sangomshumpham Musha Ahamed alias Ibobi (40) and Md. Farooque Shah (25), both residents of Khomidok in the same district.Police revealed that the duo was caught red-handed while attempting to extort money from locals. A Honda Dio scooter, reportedly used in the commission of their activities, was seized from their possession. The accused are being interrogated to trace links with other KCP (PWG) members and funding sources.“This operation is a clear message to those who seek to terrorize the public through illegal means. We are committed to protecting citizens and cracking down on any form of extortion or threat,” said a senior police officer from Imphal East.
In a separate yet related development, security personnel arrested three active members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) during a search operation in Keirao Khunou, under Irilbung Police Station, also in Imphal East district. One of the arrested insurgents, Laishram Vishan Meitei alias Bhojo alias Nongthon (28), is a resident of Lamphel Sana Keithel in Imphal West. The other two individuals were identified as juveniles, and authorities confirmed that they have been processed in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.
