Security forces recover 200-kg rocket in Churachandpur

Security forces in Manipur have uncovered a 9-foot-long, country-made rocket equipped with explosives and a detonator, weighing approximately 200 kg, Manipur Police Control Room Statement said on yesterday night. The weapon was found in the general area between S. Lonphai and Tuikong villages under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district.

The discovery was part of an extensive intelligence-based combing, cordon, and search operation aimed at apprehending individuals involved in extortion and other criminal activities in the state. The operation led to several arrests, but the specific details have not been disclosed by authorities. The recovery of such a large and potent weapon underscores the escalating security challenges faced by the region.

The recent find follows a series of rocket attacks allegedly by Kuki militants in the state.  Notably, a rocket-propelled bomb struck the residence of former Chief Minister, Mairembam Koireng Singh in Moirang town of Bishnupur district on 6th of September last year, resulting in the death of an elderly man who was offering prayers. Five others, including a 13-year-old girl, sustained injuries.
