The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) along with District Administration Senapati successfully organized a one-day sensitization programme on “The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” on Tuesday at DRDA Conference Hall, Old DC Office Complex, Senapati. Addressing the gathering, Mamoni Doley, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati applauded the MSCW for their proactive move to ensure a safer and more inclusive workplace for women. The DC noted that many offices currently submit ‘nil’ reports regarding harassment due to lack of legal awareness or peaceful society on the absence of incidents. She stated that sometimes a misogynistic or sexist comment is passed and might not even realize it constitutes harassment. She emphasized that women often hesitate to approach legal recourse to protect their dignity or avoid societal victim-blaming, where the victim’s actions are unfairly scrutinized.
The DC urged all the offices to display important provisions of the Act on notice boards and public spaces using posters and flex boards. She also encouraged the employees to utilize iGOT Karmayogi platform- which offers simplified video modules on workplace safety and legal rights. She also reminded the Act protected everyone entering workplace, ensuring a right to exist peacefully. Speaking to the attendees, Th. Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW spoke on the work and activities taken up by the MSCW in redressing the issues faced by women in the State and advocating the rights of women to promote women empowerment. She also mentioned that cases relating to women harassment or complaint can be logged in to Shed-Box portal, call National Helpline No. 181 or report it to local complaint authority. She also urged the gathering to make workplace a safe and harmonious environment.
The programme also included a technical session on “The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” deliberated by Kawizengdauliu, Advocate, Senapati District Court followed by an interaction programme.
