Shija Hospitals Rebuts Militant Threat, Vows to Continue Services

Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. has strongly rejected a threat allegedly issued by the Kangleipak Communist Party–People’s War Group (MC Unification) demanding the hospital shut down within 48 hours.

Addressing a press conference in this regard at the hospital auditorium in Langol on Wednesday, Chairman and Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Dr. Palin Khundongbam, clarified that the institution will continue providing medical services and will not suspend treatment for patients under any circumstances.

The press briefing was attended by the hospital’s executive director, medical superintendent, patients currently receiving treatment, family members of ICU patients, and relatives of dialysis patients.

Dr. Palin stated that the claims circulated by the group are baseless and have created unnecessary anxiety among patients, the public, and hospital staff. He further stated that the hospital has not received any official letter, communication, or phone call from the group regarding the alleged demand.

Reassuring the public, he emphasized that the hospital remains fully operational and committed to delivering uninterrupted healthcare services to the people.

Meanwhile, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, in a press release, stated that it has learned from media reports and social media posts on March 10 that a directive has been issued by the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) MC Unification calling for the shutdown of the hospital within 48 hours and for the hospital authority to surrender within five days.

It stated that while they do not wish to enter into any public controversy, the institute feels it is their responsibility to inform the people of the state about the serious humanitarian impact that any disruption of hospital services may have on patients currently receiving treatment.

It stated that for nearly 40 years, Shija Hospitals has served the people of Manipur by providing medical care, medical education, and community health services in accordance with Indian law, medical ethics, and nationally recognized healthcare standards.

At present, many patients depend on the hospital for critical and life-saving treatment. More than 300 patients require dialysis several times every week, while many others are receiving care in the ICU, emergency department, and other critical care units. Any sudden interruption of hospital services could put many vulnerable patients at serious risk, it stated.

Shija Hospitals also clarified that all consultants and doctors working in the hospital are full-time professionals dedicated solely to serving patients at Shija Hospitals.

It stated that as an institution accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, the hospital follows nationally recognized standards of patient care, safety, and medical ethics.

Stating that hospitals are places meant for saving lives and caring for the sick, the hospital appealed to Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) MC Unification to reconsider and withdraw the directive calling for the shutdown of the hospital.

It requested that healthcare services be allowed to continue without disruption in the interest of patients and the well-being of the community. At the same time, the hospital remains open to addressing any concerns through peaceful and constructive dialogue, it stated.
