Spot Painting Competition on ‘Stop Child Marriage’ Conducted

Under the aegis of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal and the Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok jointly organised an inter-school spot painting competition on the theme ‘Stop Child Marriage’ for students from Class VI to X on Wednesday. The competition was held at Little Star English Hr. Secondary School, Thoubal Haokha. A total of 138 students from various schools participated in the competition. The first, second, and third prize winners were Laishram Ocin Devi, son of Laishram Jackey Singh, from Little Star English Hr. Secondary School, Thoubal Haokha; Mutum Pushparani Devi, daughter of Mutum Somen Singh, from Changkhonba Institute, Thoubal Kiyam Siphai; and Macdonald Yumnam, son of Ratan Yumnam, from Little Star English Hr. Secondary School, Thoubal Haokha, respectively.

They were awarded certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 2000, Rs. 1500, and Rs. 1000. Students who secured the 4th to 8th positions also received consolation prizes of Rs. 200 each along with certificates. Furthermore, all participating students were awarded participation certificates. Speaking about the organization of the Spot Painting Competition, Thingujam Arunkumar Singh, Coordinator, Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, stated that child marriage for underage girls is a form of abuse. This competition is part of the movement to eradicate the practice of child marriage, which is a growing concern across India. The aim of the competition is to further inspire young students and highlight the talents and knowledge within every section of society, working towards a Child Marriage-free India.

The competition is expected to enhance the students’ creativity, skills, and awareness regarding child marriage. A legal awareness program was also conducted on the topic ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006’ in connection with this competition. Advocate Thokchom Bishworjit Singh shared various points related to the topic, followed by an interactive session with the participating students.
