In a landmark judgment, The Maintenance Tribunal Thoubal ordered financial assistance to be given to a senior citizen by his legally obligated children.
The Maintenance Tribunal Thoubal which was presided by SDO Thoubal Arvind Hanglem IAS, took up the case filed by a senior citizen from Thoubal Athokpam. The tribunal after hearing the statement order the children of the senior citizen to provide financial assistance of Rupees 10000 per month.
After the hearing, Arvind Hanglem SDO Thoubal said it is the first case in Manipur which is taken up under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. He said according to this Act, every senior citizens has the right to get financial security from their adult children or heirs to provide monthly maintenance.
He appealed to the public to be aware of such Acts and get the benefit of law when the senior citizens are deprived by their children or heirs.
