10 militants are arrested by security forces in a crackdown on crime and extortion

Ten militants engaged in extortion and other criminal acts were detained by security forces in Manipur’s Imphal East and Thoubal districts on Saturday, according to police, as part of a major crackdown on insurgent activity. Heirok Part 2 Chingdompok saw the arrest of four active members of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Noyon faction. The arrested persons, Heikhrujam Ngongo (34), Thokchom Thoithoinganba Meitei (22), Lourembam Suraj Singh (26), and Laikhuram Sanatomba Singh (22), were accused of kidnapping and extorting money from the public, government officials, and gas stations.

Another operation in Khabeisoi, Imphal East, resulted in the arrest of four KCP (PWG) insurgents. They were identified as Md. Ithem (55), Sanabam Amitkumar Singh (40), Seram Prem Singh (49), and Lanpoklakpam Sanathoi Meitei (23), and they were said to have engaged in such extortion acts. Meanwhile, Okram Aboy Meitei (37), an active member of UNLF (Pambei), was apprehended by police in a separate raid in Nungoi Awang Leikai, Imphal East. In and around the city of Imphal, he was accused of extortion and the transportation of weapons and ammunition. He was found to have a.32 handgun with three live rounds in it.

22-year-old Moirangthem Alexander Singh, popularly known as Satpa, was taken into custody by security personnel at the Heingang Police Station in Imphal East, close to Liberal College Gate in Luwangsangbam. He was accused of extorting money from cargo cars on National Highway-2 and is a member of the G-5 group under PREPAK. In order to maintain stability and security in the area, authorities have reaffirmed their will to take tough measures against rebel organizations involved in extortion and unlawful activity.
