67 Acres of Illicit Poppy Crops Destroyed by Joint Teams in Manipur’s Hill Ranges

In a recent anti-narcotics operation conducted on December 5 and 6, security forces, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Forest Department destroyed approximately 67 acres of illegally cultivated poppy in Kangpokpi district, Manipur. This joint operation targeted fields in the hill ranges of Makui Ashang, Laloi, Wakotphai, and Chaljang, leading to the dismantling of 38 huts used by poppy cultivators. Significant amounts of farming tools were seized, including 44 bags of fertilizers, 43 bottles of Roundup herbicide, and 26 bags of salt. All confiscated items were destroyed on-site, as reported by Manipur Police. Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh praised the state government’s actions, linking the operation to the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign, and called for sustained efforts to combat narcotics cultivation in vulnerable areas of the state, reinforcing the prime minister’s vision of a drug-free India.
