7th Session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Begins; 6 Kuki-Zo-Hmar MLAs Join Virtually

The seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly resumed on Monday after being adjourned sine die on February 5. The session began with obituary speeches honoring several deceased officials, including former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and former Governor La. Ganesan. Attendance was noted for six of the nine Kuki-Zo-Hmar MLAs, who participated via video conference. These included Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and MLAs from various constituencies. Members across party lines expressed their condolences, reflecting on the contributions of the deceased. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh characterized the attendance of the Kuki-Zo-Hmar MLAs as a positive step towards normalising the state’s current situation, which was echoed by Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. The procedural arrangements for virtual participation were previously made, enabling their presence in the budget session. During the debate, representative LM Khaute contributed his tribute from the Churachandpur constituency while connected through video conference.
