A juvenile cadre of the banned Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested by security forces in Manipur’s Thoubal district and recovered seven firearms in a separate operation in Jiribam. The PLA cadre was involved in extortion activities and recruitment of members. The arrested militant was active in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. The PLA has carried out several attacks on central security forces in the past. The police are conducting search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas across districts. Ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups has resulted in over 260 mortality and thousands rendered homeless since May 2023. The state assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation.
