ACCA claims Kuki militants involved in arson, intimidation of Liangmai Naga

Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association has condemned the recent arson and threats by an armed Kuki militant group against the Liangmai Naga people in the Thonglang Liangmai Naga village, which occurred on March 21. In a press release, the association accused the Kuki militants of burning construction materials, temporary shelters, and eco-tourism surroundings, as well as stealing laborers’ materials, demonstrating poor military discipline. The association emphasized that this is not the first such incident, as threats to the conservation of Zaimeng Lake—a habitat for unique species attracting tourists—will not be tolerated.

The Kuki militants are known for creating disturbances and intimidating indigenous communities, and the association criticized the Indian Government for its leniency towards them. It called for immediate action to ensure the safety of all citizens and encouraged public condemnation of the militants’ actions. The association warned that if justice is not served within two days, it will organize protests. It highlighted the escalating threat to various indigenous groups, noting that if collective action is not taken, anyone could become a target next.
