Air India on Thursday opened a new premium lounge at Delhi airport, marking another step in the Tata Group-owned airline’s ongoing transformation. Calling it an “exciting time” for the carrier, Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson said major changes will become clearly visible both in the air and on the ground during 2026.
Spread across 16,000 square feet, the newly launched Maharaja Lounge can accommodate around 300 passengers, with dedicated sections for Business and First Class travellers. The airline also plans to open similar lounges in international hubs including San Francisco and New York.
Speaking after the inauguration, Wilson said Air India is upgrading its wide-body fleet, with more than half of these aircraft expected to be retrofitted to new standards by the end of this year. The remaining upgrades will be completed over the next 18 to 24 months, aiming to deliver a consistent, world-class passenger experience.
In a statement, Wilson described the Delhi lounge as a key milestone in Air India’s revival, adding that the group—comprising Air India and Air India Express—now operates a fleet of over 300 aircraft.
