The Akashvani Listeners’ Meet 2026 was successfully held today at the residence of Akashvani listener Linthoi Salam at Awang Leikai, Nambol Leimapokpam, Bishnupur district in Manipur. The programme was organised by the listeners of Akashvani Imphal.Senior listener Oinam Chittaranjan presided over the function, while Nongthombam Roma, Programme Coordinator, All India Radio (AIR) Imphal, attended as the chief guest.Among those present were Heigrujam Devendra, Programme Executive, AIR Imphal; Nongmaithem Sumita, Assistant Research Officer, Audience Research Unit; former announcer Keke Wahengbam; senior artistes Thongam Thoithoi, Subhash Athokpam, Ayekpam Priyobala, Khwairekpam Minaksi, Ratankumar Loitongbam, Khaidem Victoria, Ngangom Ibeyaima, R.K. Lokesana, Kakchingtabam Ritesh, along with several officers and staff of AIR Imphal, who participated as guests of honour.Speaking at the occasion, senior listener R.K. Opendro recalled that the Akashvani Imphal Listeners’ Meet was first organised on January 4, 2012. He said the continued success of the annual programme depends on the cooperation of listeners and added that AIR Imphal gives due importance to constructive feedback and suggestions from listeners, especially during challenging times.
In her address, Programme Coordinator Nongthombam Roma stated that Akashvani Imphal can function effectively only with the active involvement and support of its listeners. She noted that without listeners, meaningful radio programmes cannot be sustained. She emphasised the need to strengthen the relationship between All India Radio Imphal and its listeners to further enhance the station’s growth.
Roma further said she was delighted to participate in the Listeners’ Meet and appreciated the valuable opinions and suggestions offered by listeners, which, she said, would help the station improve. She also stated that AIR Imphal would be happy if anyone hands over archival materials including old songs, plays, dramas, and other rare recordings, for the benefit of present and future audiences.
Programme Executive Heigrujam Devendra said that All India Radio Imphal occupies a unique position among radio stations across various states of India. He pointed out that Manipur is one of the states with a strong radio-listening culture and a large listener base. He described radio as an important medium deeply loved by the people of Manipur and stressed that continued support from listeners is essential for AIR Imphal to carry forward people-oriented programmes.The cultural segment of the programme featured performances by artistes Hudrom Nowboy, Thongam Luxmi, Pangambam Rajendro, and others, who presented various songs, adding colour to the event.
