AR Felicitates Newly Commissioned Officer

In a moment of immense pride and inspiration for the youth of Manipur, a felicitation ceremony was conducted on Wednesday at Sector Headquarters Assam Rifles, Churachandpur, to honor the achievement of Lieutenant Obed Thangminsiam. A resident of Hiangzou village, Churachandpur, the young officer was commissioned into the prestigious 10 Guards of the Indian Army on March 7, 2026, after completing his training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.

The ceremony was presided over by the Sector Commander, who commended the officer for his resilience and grit. Lt. Obed’s journey to the olive greens is a remarkable testament to perseverance. Despite the ongoing regional conflict that caused delays to his academic examinations and compelled him to undertake arduous travel to Aizawl for his CDS examinations and SSB interviews, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of excellence. His success on his second attempt at SSB Bhopal stands as a shining example of determination against all odds, said a press release of IGAR(S).

This achievement is also a proud continuation of a family legacy. Lt. Obed is the son of Hon. Naib Subedar (Retd.) Khamkhokam, who served in 13 Guards from 1990 to 2014, and Smt. Dimhoiching. By joining the same regiment as his father, he has reinforced the deep-rooted military traditions of the region. His success has brought immense joy to his alma maters—Young Learners School, Rayburn High, and Churachandpur College—as well as to the local community.

The sector commander recalled that Lt. Obed had earlier been felicitated in January 2025 when he cleared the CDS examination in his first attempt. Witnessing his transition from a determined student to a commissioned officer was described as a moment of profound pride for the Sector, it added.
