At the Indo-Myanmar border in Champhai district, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police conducted a major operation on Tuesday, busting a drug cargo and seizing methamphetamine pills valued at ₹173.73 crore. The drugs that were confiscated weighed 57.91 kg, the Assam Rifles said in a statement. The report claims that Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police set up an ambush at Crossing Point 1, Vokte Kai, in response to specific intelligence regarding drug trafficking. When the United team saw suspected criminals transporting contraband, they made an effort to stop them.
The Assam Rifles, who were assigned to guard 510 kilometers of the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, have been putting a lot of effort into stopping illicit activity there. Strict security and surveillance are maintained along the porous border by three battalions, each of which is in charge of six Company Operating Bases, under the command of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters, which is situated in Aizawl’s Khatla. In the meantime, Assam Rifles and the Excise & Narcotics Department seized two people on October 3 after recovering about 1980 grams of methamphetamine tablets from General Area New Siaha in Siaha District, Mizoram, last year.
While delivering the shipment to a local resident, the smuggler—a Myanmar resident—was apprehended. More recovery had been made after a search operation had been started in the area. The Excise and Narcotics Department, Siaha, has detained the two people and the full shipment of methamphetamine, valued at Rs 6,65,01,007 (Rupees 6 crores sixty-five lakhs one thousand and seven rupees only), for additional investigation and legal action.
