Assam Rifles marked Army Day 2026 on Thursday with a series of meaningful civic action programmes across Manipur, reinforcing its role as a trusted friend of the people. Army Day, observed annually, commemorates the historic occasion in 1949 when the first Indian Commander-in-Chief assumed command of the Indian Army, symbolising service, discipline and national pride. At Bongjang Village in Tengnoupal District, a friendly volleyball match was organised between Assam Rifles personnel and local youth. The spirited contest, witnessed by villagers, saw 28 players participate in a cordial yet competitive environment, fostering camaraderie, discipline and mutual respect, conveyed IGAR(S) in a press release.
In Kangpokpi district, a motivational lecture under the ‘Day with Company Commander’ initiative was conducted at Sajal Kuki Village. The interactive session engaged 83 children, offering career counselling and guidance on opportunities in the Armed Forces and civilian streams, instilling values of patriotism, hard work and purposeful living.
At Keithelmanbi Garrison, an awareness lecture and practical demonstration on First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society, Imphal West District. The distinguished team comprising Dr Koijam Arun Kanta, Dr Bankim Thokcham, Ng Aider and H Roshnikanta trained 80 participants in vital life-saving techniques, enhancing preparedness and confidence in emergency response, it said. Meanwhile, at Alpha School in Kachai Village, Ukhrul District, Assam Rifles organised an awareness lecture on career opportunities in the Armed Forces and security services. Personnel from Assam Rifles briefed students on recruitment procedures, eligibility standards and the values of service and integrity.
Altogether, more than 190 individuals, including troops, youth, students and villagers, took part in these initiatives. Such focused initiatives to engage with the youth and guiding them in the right direction of peace, brighter future and empowering them to become successful is a definite way ahead for stability, unity and harmony amongst the communities. The successful conduct of these programmes underscored Assam Rifles’ enduring commitment to unity, resilience and collective progress in the spirit of Army Day, it added.
